Wonder Boys announce recruiting class

Arkansas Tech Sports Information Director Paul Smith is currently announcing the Wonder Boys football recruiting class live at Athletics.atu.edu. As Coach Raymond Monica's first recruiting class takes shape we will update the list that follows:


  1. Antwon Arnold (RB, 6-0, 205, Searcy, Ark.) Antwon played RB/QB/DE at Searcy HS, rushing for 1,531 yards with 17 TDs, passing for 1342 yds with 13 TD. He earned all-state honors in 2011 and 2012.
  2. Wallace Foote (RB, 5-9, 180, Benton, Ark./Benton HS) Wallace rushed for 1866 yards and 23 TDs, catching 30 passes for 393 yds and 3 TDs. He racked up 2641 all-purpose yards en route to all-state and all-conference honors. He rushed for 462 yards in a game against Russellville HS.
  3. Terrance Belton (LB, 6-0, 220, Denton, Texas/Guyer HS) Terrance racked up 166 total tackles, 22 TFL, 6 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble and one fumble recovery, and two interceptions. Bryton Booher (OL, 6-8, 315, Conway, Ark. / Conway HS) Bryton earned second team all-conference honors as a senior and graded out at 90% for the season. His HS coach, Clint Ashcraft, describes Bryton as a "great kid with a lot of upside".
  4. Conner Brown (OL, 6-3, 250, Mountain Home, Ark. / Mountain Home HS) Connor started 22 games over the past two years and blocked for three 1,000-yard rushers. He graded out at over 82% for his senior season. Conner's high school coach, Benji Mahan, says Conner "Has really worked himself into this position. It's an honor and great accomplishment for him and our football program."
  5. De'Andre Cannon (CB, 5-10, 170, Dallas, Texas/Dallas Christian HS) D'Andre played RB/CB at Dallas Christian, rushing for over 2000 yards his junior season, rushing for over 1400 as a senior. He had over 30 rushing TDs. A two-time all-state selection. His HS coach, Mike Wheeler has the following to say: "Great young man that is always ready to play. I wish I had a lot more like him."
  6. Dapree Carson (DE, 6-3, 230, Oklahoma City, Okla. / Southmoore HS) Dapree had 50 tackles, three sacks, two TFLs, and 2 pass breakups. He earned all-district honors as a senior. His HS coach says that Dapree "just touched the tip of his potential."
  7. Hayden Carlton (OL, 6-6, 265, Lamar, Ark. / Lamar HS) Hayden had 20 pancake blocks and racked up 40 tackles playing on the defensive side of the ball. An All-Conference and All-State selection, Carlton's high school coach, Josh Jones says that he is a "great young man who is very intelligent. We are excited to see him play at Tech!"
  8. Jacolby Crow (DE, 6-0, 250, Nashville, Ark. / Nashville HS) Jacolby racked up 53 solo tackles and 39 assisted tackles, six TFL, five sacks, and six QB hurries. A 2012 all-state selection, Crow as a first team all-conference selection.
  9. Ja-Karee Gaines (RB, 5-11, 200, Nashville, Ark. / Nashville HS) Gaines had 136 carries for 1,337 yards and 15 TDs, catching 26 passes for 324 yards and 3 TDs.
  10.  D’Andre Gridley (CB, 5-10, 165, Pine Bluff, Ark. / Pine Bluff HS) DeAndre was an all-conference selection and an honorable mention all-state selection.
  11. Chase Hensley (DE/DT, 6-2, 240, Jackson, Tenn. / University School of Jackson) He had 50 tackles, 14.5 TFL, 4 forced fumbles, and two sacks. He was an all-state selection and was named district defensive player of the year.
  12. Joseph Holmes (DE, 6-4, 205, Mesquite, Texas / Mesquite HS) An honorable mention all-district selection, he played on a district championship team after racking up 86 tackles, six sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and four pass breakups.
  13. Gage Jensen (QB, 6-2, 180, Alma, Ark. / Alma HS) Gage was 214-341 on the season with 2,208 yards and 21 TDs... he rushed for 764 yards and nine TDs, accounting for 73% of his team's total offense. His HS offensive coordinator, Chris Gunter, said the following - "Gage is an exceptional young man that possesses all of the tools to be successful on and off the field.
  14. Tim Kelly (DE, 6-2, 215, Bryant, Ark. / Bryant HS) Tim had 47 tackles, 6 sacks, 8 TFL, 2 fumble recoveries, and 8 QB hurries as a senior. He was an all-conference and all-state selection. His high school coach, Paul Calley, said Tim "plays with tremendous heart and has an intensity level that makes him difficult to block."
  15. Donyell King (WR, 5-9, 165, Nashville, Ark. / Nashville HS) Donyell looks to be a multiple threat - playing DB/WR/KR.
  16. Malachia McGee (WR, 6-2, 180, Mena, Ark. / Mena HS) Malachia had 40 receptions with 803 yards and nine TDs, rushing for 123 yards and two TDs. He was an all-state selection and a three-sport athlete.
  17. Quincy Peyton (CB, 5-11, 185, Mesquite, Texas / Mesquite HS) Quincy had 32 tackles, one INT, 1 forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and five pass breakups as a senior. He was named a first team all-district selection. His HS coach, Robbie Robinson says that Quincy is a "shutdown corner with a huge up side".
  18. Chase Pigue (OL, 6-3, 270, Benton, Ark. / Benton HS) Chase projects as an offensive guard. He was a first team all-district selection as a senior. His coach, Scott Neathery describes him as "a hard working football player" and "coachable".
  19. David Price (TE/H, 6-1, 220, Fort Smith, Ark. / Southside HS) 3016 career total yards, 45 youchdowns. Had 2,598 career yards, rushed for 40 TDs. Also had 418 yards receiving and five TDs. He averaged 42.3 yards per punt and was a three-time all-conference selection anda two-time all-state selection. His HS coach, Jeff Williams says that David "is a great football player who can do many things. His best football is ahead of him."
  20. Byron Pruitt (DT, 6-0, 275, Arlington, Texas/Sam Houston HS) Byron had 75 tackles, eight sacks, 26 TFL. He was an honorable mention all-state selection and a first team all-district pick. His HS coach, Anthony Criss said the following - "One of the best defensive tackles I have ever coached. He has a very smart football I.Q."
  21. Myron Pruitt (OL, 6-0, 275, Arlington, Texas / Sam Houston HS) Myron Pruitt had 26 pancake blocks and was a first team all-district selection. He was a team captain. His coach said many of the same things about Myron that he said about Byron. 
  22. Devarius Rice (FS, 5-10, 180, Pine Bluff, Ark. Was an all-conference an all-state selection. Information is scarce in the way of stats, but his coach, Bobby Bolding describes Rice as a "great kid who can fly. Very athletic."
  23. Cameron Robertson (OL, 6-2, 280, Bossier City, La. / Airline HS) Cameron was a two-time all-district and all-city selection, and an honorable mention all-state pick.
  24. Imond "Bam" Robinson (RB, 5-6, 165, Norman, Okla. / Norman HS.  Rushed for 1,448 yards, averaged over 8 yards per carry. Scored 11 TDs. All-district and all-conference selection as well as being named offensive co-player of the year. "Imond is not just an outstanding player, but an even better student-athlete. A fine young man who is using his athletic ability to ensure he receives a great education and create opportunities for his future." Coach Norsworthy just stopped by and tells me that he's a legitimate 4.3 kid (in the 40-yard dash). Could really help us on special teams.
  25. Tavi Sanches (FS, 5-11, 180, Denton, Texas / Guyer HS) 111 tacles, 5 TFL, 7 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, four INT, 1 blocked FG,two extra point blocks, and one HECK of a model American (inhales deeply).
  26. Gerard Scott (RB/CB, 5-9, 160, Angleton, Texas /Angleton HS. Gerard had 31 carries for 375 yards and eight TDs, averaging 12.1 yards per carry. He also had five interceptions, 196 return yards and two TDs. Two-time first team all-district selection as a defensive back. His HS coach, Ryan Roark, described him as "undersized, but one of the best-kept secrets in the state of Texas.
  27. Ian Shuttleworth (OL, 6-3, 285, Bryant, Ark. / Bryant HS) Ian anchored an offensive line that scored almost 34 points per game. He also caught a pass for 23 yards and scored a touchdown, because really, who's going to take down an O-lineman with a 20-yard head start? An all-conference selection, an all-state selection, and the winner of the 2012 Landers/Paul Eells Spirit Award, Shuttleworth was diagnosed with Hodgkins-lymphoma cancer. After undergoing chemo in the spring of 2011, he recently attended this year's Super Bowl through the "Make a Wish Foundation". "Ian is a young man with tremendous character and work ethic with all the tools to be a great lineman.
  28. Marlin Simmons (SS, 5-11, 200, Mesquite, Texas / Mesquite HS) Marlin had 76 tackles, six pass breakups, one INT, and one FF. A second team all-district honoree as a junior, he made first team as a senior. His HS coach, Robbie Robinson said that Simmons is one of the most physical players on defense, hard-nosed and aggressive.
  29. Logan Williams (WR, 5-10, 180, Bossier City, La. / Airline HS) Logan had 35 receptions for 521 yards and five TDs, en route to earning second team all-district honors.
  30. Nick Akins (LB, 5-11, 220, Mesquite, Texas / Mesquite HS) A second team all-district selection as a junior and senior, Akins also runs trach. His HS coach, Mike Overton, mentions that he is a "great kid" and "one of the hardest working guys I've been around".
