Sheriff Bill Gilkey announced today that investigators from the Yell County Sheriff’s Department, Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division and Yell County Coroner’s Office, are conducting an investigation into a fatal fire which occurred over the weekend.
According to Chief Deputy John Foster, the fire was reported around 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 20, 2013. Firefighters from Moore’s Chapel, Havana and Belleville Fire Departments responded to the fire which was on Richardson Lane just south of Blue Mountain Lake. Authorites discovered the body of Diane Bryant-Phelps (55), of Havana, inside the residence around 11:00 pm. Foster indicated that Phelps lived alone at the residence, and that her husband had recently passed away from an illness.
Foster said that investigators recovered evidence from the debris which may be helpful in
determining the cause of the fire but he indicated that at this time the cause remains unknown. The home and two vehicles were completely destroyed by the fire according to Foster.
